STREET DANCE
Training at Groundswell Dance Company revolves around each student learning the absolute core and fundamental aspects of dance training as well as the foundations of each style of Street Dance. Styles taught at Groundswell include Popping, Locking, House, Waacking and Hip Hop. Each class is structured to cover the basic techniques of each style and as students advance and gain confidence through the foundations, they naturally evolve as creative dancers with the ability to not only learn and perform choreography, but to show self expression through freestyle. Dancers in Groundswell are trained to work excellently as a team but are also given the freedom to explore their own skills as independent choreographers and dancers.
CONTEMPORARY & BALLET
Groundswell has formally introduced ballet and contemporary training into the timetable as it is only through these disciplines that dancers can become versatile and strong, thoroughly preparing students for further college training and giving individuals broader opportunities as dancers and choreographers. Many students of Groundswell Dance Company are now pursuing dance college and performing arts training, whist also gaining placements in Companyʼs such as County Youth Dance and West Glamorgan Youth Theatre.
BREAKDANCE
All aspects of dance training are considered to be physically demanding but none as much as the whole body and balance training that breakdance gives. These classes cover fundamental conditioning exercises, training and developing balance, strength and power and progressing onto more vigorous techniques and moves expected of any breakdancer. Breakdance is excellent training and an impressive skill to have for boys and girls of all ages.
TEAM TRAINING
Groundswell Dance Company is well known and recognized for producing many Street Dance teams that excel in competitions, locally, nationally and internationally. Members of teams are expected to give a level of commitment above and beyond just that of a single weekly class and are only permitted to join through selection following an Annual Audition process.
